Ann Swanson helps businesses sort through an overwhelming number of digital and Internet marketing options. She helps businesses leverage tools such as web sites, SEO, e-newsletters, mobile marketing, pay-per-click, and social media to create better relationships with their customers.

Ann began working in web communications in 2000. Her career includes web development and marketing director at Portneuf Medical Center, Pocatello’s regional hospital; marketing director at Idaho State University College of Business, and owning her own small business. She has two Master’s Degrees from the University of Southern California and has been a marketing professor at Idaho State University. Ann joined the Pocatello Idaho SBDC in 2011.

Claudia Allen is a Business Consultant for Region V. She started her own process serving business thirty years ago and also spent many years bookkeeping for home-based businesses. She knows QuickBooks well and enjoys helping businesses set up their financial management systems.

Claudia helps businesses with financial management systems, and banking inquiries, thus her background. She also helps in business development.

Claudia was the former Loan and Loss Mitigation manager and a Business Development officer at two local credit unions, so she understands the relationships between banking and small business. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration from ISU, and she is very active in Civitan International, a civic organization whose main focus is making our communities a better place to live and supporting people with disabilities.

Zach is a graphic and website designer with over 8 years of experience helping small businesses throughout Idaho and Utah. Zach received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Idaho State University in 2012 and quickly began his career at a local marketing agency.

Over the years, he has helped hundreds of local businesses and entrepreneurs with their graphic and website needs. From start-ups to well-established businesses looking for a refresh, Zach knows the importance of keeping a well designed and mobile-friendly website.

Presley helps businesses with their graphic identities and promotional materials. Projects include everything from logo development to brochures and product photography.

Presley graduated from Idaho State University in 2015 with a major in mass communications (graphics emphasis) and a minor in marketing. She began doing work for the SBDC shortly after graduating and has continued to work with them as well as small businesses in the area. Outside of work, Presley is an avid long distance runner and is active in several clubs and committees, including the Pocatello Advertising Federation, where she holds the position of vice president.

Accouting Consultant

Debra joined the SBDC staff with 36 years of experience as an accountant and a CPA. After graduating from Idaho State University majoring in Accounting and Marketing, Debra worked for the Internal Revenue Service.

As a Revenue Agent, she traveled to various businesses conducted audits, and educated taxpayers on tax law. Debra worked for the IRS for 10 years and audited all sizes of business and applied tax law for income, employment, and excise taxes.

Debra then joined a car dealership as Controller, where she processed payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and published monthly audited financial statements while overseeing a staff of 5 employees. She worked at the dealership for 12 years. While at the dealership, she opened and operating a tax practice. Debra prepared tax returns for individuals, businesses, and employers. As well as educating them on Quick Books and Peachtree accounting systems.

Debra Joined Idaho State University as a staff auditor in 2006, moving to University Business Officer in 2007. As a UBO, she managed all administrative and budgetary aspects of the Unit. At the conclusion of her career she was managing 14 separate Units on campus. Debra retired from ISU at the end of 2019. She is delighted to continue to utilize her experience and continue to help and educate business.

Chase Downs

Graduate Assistant

Chase, a Caldwell native, recently finished his undergraduate degrees in Business Management and Marketing at Idaho State University. He has an extensive sports background, and he loves the state of Idaho.

With his previous work experience as a marketing intern at Farm Bureau Insurance, Chase is excited to bring his skills to the Idaho SBDC while he begins his MBA at Idaho State. His favorite hobby is finding new music and making playlists for his friends on Spotify.
